Hi there!

I’m Steph—the Minimalist Editor. As a minimalist, I live by the idea that we should only surround ourselves with things that add value to our lives, while eliminating those that don’t. I apply this same concept to my career as a writer and editor: every word in a piece of writing should bring value to the story or message being delivered.

Who am I?

I was inspired by words from a very young age—one of my first words was Arnold Schwarzenegger (I kid you not), I wrote my first “book” at 6 years old (although I needed someone to write it, of course), and I started editing classmates’ assignments in the first grade, because I loved playing around with other people’s words.

I spent my childhood looking for any excuse to write, whether it was contributing to the 7th grade newspaper with a weekly poem or attending Dandie Dinmont Terrier day to interview competitors for a weekly newsletter, and eventually earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics and French Linguistics at the University of Toronto. I then completed a diploma in Fashion Management from George Brown College where I learned about the negative impact of fast fashion on the environment. Now, in addition to being more intentional about the items I add to my life, I’ve shifted my focus to living less wastefully and more sustainably.

In 2018, I completed a certificate in editing and publishing.

Why should you hire me?

I chose to study linguistics because by the time I began university, I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of words and wanted to gain a deeper understanding of language. Linguistics is the scientific study of language, and it allowed me to analyze language from a different perspective—from the perspective of how sounds are made, how words are formed, and how one language can vary so subtly across age, gender, and relationship. My background in linguistics distinguishes me from the average English or Journalism major because my in-depth and scientific understanding of language enables me to individualize each of my clients’ content.

My decision to pursue a career as a writer and editor came from a genuine love for words and the excitement I feel when I turn someone’s rough work into professional, eloquent content. In trusting me to help you convey your brand’s unique image, you’re trusting someone who doesn’t just do this as a career, but who does it out of passion.
